Best Ways To Cool Down In Palm Springs

4 Great Ways to Beat the Desert Heat
We're moving into the summer months now and in Palm Springs that means time to find ways to keep cool in the desert. With the average high temperature on the rise to 108 oF (42 oC), locals and visitors alike are looking for creative ways to beat the heat but still enjoy the best the Coachella Valley has to offer. Here are four perfect ways to keep cool in the desert.
1. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will whisk you off the desert floor toward the top of Mount San Jacinto and its alpine wonderland. The upper tram station at an elevation of 8516 feet will be 25 to 30 degrees cooler than downtown Palm Springs. It is the perfect spot for some cool summer hiking or just take in the spectacular views of the Coachella Valley. Known as the world’s largest rotating tramcar, this Aerial Tramway offers breathtaking views of the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon. Be certain to check out the movie at the San Jacinto State Park visitors’ center that tells the story of the tramway from inception to current day.
2. Grab Some Ice Cream
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Whether you are a traditionalist needing a carb, sugar and fat fix with old-fashioned ice cream or prefer a healthier frozen yogurt or sorbet, you will find the perfect frozen confection at the various ice cream shops around Palm Springs. Ben and Jerry’s (110 S Palm Canyon Dr) offers their unique flavor combinations while Cold Stone Creamery (155 S Palm Canyon Dr) gives you the option to personalize your flavor with interesting mix-ins. If you want to drink your ice cream, check out Great Shakes (160 S Palm Canyon Dr) and try a date shake made from locally grown dates. Lappert's Ice Cream (130 N Palm Canyon Dr) is a traditional ice cream shop with friendly staff and always-delicious flavors from which to choose. Eddie’s Frozen Yogurt (300 E Arenas Rd) has a wonderful selection of self-serve yogurt and toppings to please everyone. Jus Chillin Frozen Yogurt & Gelato (190 E Tahquitz Canyon Way) is a fun neighborhood place which also has frozen custard.
3. Visit the Palm Springs Art Museum
The Palm Springs Art Museum located in the heart of downtown provides a cool and inviting space to wander and enjoy a fantastic collection of art works. The Palm Springs Art Museum highlights a sophisticated art collection loaned or donated by the Coachella Valley’s art-loving residents. The art collection compares with many urban metropolitan museums, including works from Chagall, Picasso, Warhol, Adams and many others. Current exhibitions include “Contemporary Glass” from The Kaplan/Ostergaard Glass Center, “Reflections on Water” which invites visitors to consider their experiences with water, and “The Weiner Family Collection” of great sculpture. The artwork will certainly take your mind off the heat outside.
4. Take a Dip in Our Refreshing Pool
Nothing beats the desert heat than the instant relief of plunging into a refreshing pool! We’ve got a large and deep freshwater pool at POSH Palm Springs Inn, which never feels like bathwater. There are more than enough chaise lounge chairs around the pool so you never need to “reserve” one early in the morning with a book or towel. A selection of floatation pool toys is also handy if you’d rather lie in the water than beside the pool. Complimentary ice-cold lemonade and iced tea is available poolside during the day to keep you hydrated and our signature frozen POSH martini is available during happy hour. You’ll need to reserve your room (either online or phone 760-992-5410) and use the promo code “POSH-Summer” to enjoy all POSH Palm Springs Inn has to offer for as low as $99.50 per night.
