The Palm Springs Theatre scene is alive and well and ready to kick off the 2016-2017 season. Professional and amateur award-winning theatre groups are found in Palm Springs and neighboring desert cities which provide high quality entertainment to both amuse you and make you think. Many types of theatre productions are at your disposal from original plays through touring Broadway productions. Here is a list of our favorite Palm Springs Theatre groups with highlights of their upcoming 2016-17 season.

Coachella Valley Repertory 

The Coachella Valley Repertory is a not-for-profit theatre which has the unique distinction of having Small Professional Theatre status within Actors’ Equity. Located at 69-930 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, Coachella Valley Repertory is just 20-minutes from downtown Palm Springs. ANNAPURNA by Sharr White, a comic and gripping duet runs October 26-November 20, 2016.

BABY, THE MUSICAL by David Shire (music), Richard Maltby, Jr.(lyrics), and Sybille Pearson (book) explores pregnancy and parenthood runs January 18-February 12, 2017.

DISGRACED by Ayad Akhtar delves into racial prejudices and runs March 8-April 2, 2017.

LATER LIFE by A.R. Gurney discovers the infinite possibilities life can hold and runs April 26-May 21, 2017.

Palm Canyon Theatre 

Palm Canyon Theatre is a 501(c) non-profit celebrating their 20th season in Palm Springs theatre focusing on locally-produced musical theatre and plays. Located at 538 N Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, it is an easy 20-minute walk from POSH Palm Springs Inn with many excellent restaurant choices nearby to complete your evening. JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, the Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice musical, runs from
January 20 – February 5, 2017.

ROCK OF AGES, where you rock back to the Sunset Strip circa 1987, runs from May 12 – 21, 2017.

Desert Rose Playhouse

The Desert Rose Playhouse presents live stage productions featuring the best LGBTQ and Gay-Positive musicals, plays and entertainment in a comfortable professional space. Desert Rose Playhouse is located at 69-620 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage, a short 20-minute drive from POSH Palm Springs Inn. POZ, by Michael Aman, a stylish new comedy running September 30 – October 23, 2016.

THE SANTALAND DIARIES, by David Sedaris & Joe Mantello, explores the true-life experiences of an elf in the Macy’s Santaland display, runs from November 18 – December 18, 2016.

VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM and COMA by Charles Busch, an Off-Broadway long-running hit, plays from January 20 – February 12, 2017.

SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES by Del Shores, creator of “Sordid Lives”, runs from March 10 – April 2, 2017.

CLARK GABLE SLEPT HERE, by Michael McKeever, is an adult comedy about Hollywood and runs April 28 – May 21, 2017.
