Bicycling for a Cause: Patriot Ride for Our Heroes & Tour de Palm Springs, THE WESTCOTT

Biking is a beloved pastime, especially in the city of Palm Springs, CA! Our beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery combine to create the best possible environment for a bicycle ride around town. If you are one of the many bike enthusiasts in the area, why not do it for a good cause? There are two great bicycling events on the horizon, the Patriot Ride for our Heroes and the Tour de Palm Springs. Both events are fun activities which bring us together as a community with a desire to help those in need as well. Learn all about these exciting events and how you can participate to start making a difference in the lives of others!

EventPatriot Ride for Our Heroes

Date: October 22, 2016. Ride begins at 7:00 am.

Where: Southwest Church premises: 44175 Washington Street, Indian Wells, CA 92210 (adjacent to the world famous Tennis Gardens)

Details: The 4th Annual Patriot Ride For Our Heroes charity cycling event recognizes and supports our local Fire, Military, & Police. Festivities begin on Friday evening, October 21 with a pasta dinner at the Riverside County fairgrounds from 5-9 pm. Be prepared to bid on auction items including the chance to sky dive with a Navy Seal! A Patriot walk is also planned for those without bicycles who wish to participate. A vendor expo will include cycling, food, clothing and veteran booths while live entertainment and cheer groups will keep spirits high on Saturday. Charity raffles will occur during the day. Additional activities include: Navy Seals Frog-X parachute jump, auto expo, law enforcement expo, Palm Springs Air Museum flyover, General Patton Museum military display, service & therapy animals / search dog rescue display, motorcycle gathering, JR ROTC drill exercise and a pancake breakfast. Bike rentals are also available.

In order to identify and honor all military, police and fire personnel participating in the Patriot Ride for Our Heroes, bring your service hat to wear at the beginning of the ride. Register for the ride now and all pre-registered riders and walkers will receive a t-shirt upon check in.

EventTour de Palm Springs

Date: January 21, 2017. Staggered starting times beginning at 6:30 am depending on route distance.

Where: Downtown Palm Springs, Corner of E. Alejo Rd and N. Palm Canyon Drive.

Details: The Tour de Palm Springs is hosted by the nonprofit organization CVSPIN (Coachella Valley Serving People in Need) founded by Palm Springs local Tim Esser in 1999. It has been recognized as the best event in the Coachella Valley and the Tour de Palm Springs has continued to expand, drawing more and more participants while raising more and more money for charities. CVSPIN has raised over $3,000,000 for charities since the event was founded. A few charities which have benefitted from the Tour de Palm Springs include the American Red Cross, Paws and Hearts, American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans of the Desert, and countless schools, churches, and other programs.

The Tour de Palm Springs begins in downtown Palm Springs. Choose from routes including a 100-mile (6:30 am start), 50-mile (8 am start), 25-mile (9 am start), or 10-mile (10 am start) ride. Alternatively, you can also walk on 1, 2, or 3-mile route (immediate departure after 10 mile riders leave). Bicycle rentals are available. All routes wind along the picturesque scenery of Palm Springs for an absolutely amazing experience unlike any other. Register for the ride now and all pre-registered riders and walkers will receive a t-shirt upon check-in. Online registration closes on January 16, 2017.

A Vendor Expo will be free and open to the public on both Friday, January 20 (noon-8 pm) and Saturday, January 21 (6 am- 5 pm). Booths will be set up by local Coachella Valley nonprofit organizations, bicycle manufacturers, bicycle gear, apparel and other bicycle ride programs, along with a food court.
