5 Reasons Why People Like The Career Builder Challenge, THE WESTCOTT

Attention, all golf lovers: The golf tournament of the year is coming up soon!  Discover the details of the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge below; learn about its origins as the Bob Hope Classic, when and where this year’s tournament will take place, and what you can expect from this prominent PGA golf event.

Reason #1: Originally known as the Bob Hope Classic

The Bob Hope Classic was created in 1960 as a solution to a growing problem: The Thunderbird Invitational, a golf tournament featuring some of the best golfers in the area, was failing.  The budget was small, the course wasn’t properly designed, and members of the Thunderbird Country Club were frustrated they couldn’t use their own course while the tournament was in session.  Luckily, five influential golfers of the Palm Springs region came forward to solve this issue; Milt Hicks, Johnny Dawson, Ernie Dunlevie, and Ed and Ellsworth Vines joined together to form the Palm Springs Desert Golf Classic in 1960.  However, this event had a rocky start and the founders began running into obstacles; they knew their only chance at getting enough attention and sponsors was if Bob Hope, a local golf enthusiast, would support their cause.  Fortunately, they received a stroke of luck shortly after; the founders happened to be on the same flight to Los Angeles as Bob Hope himself.  After some persuasion and hard work, the Bob Hope Classic officially launched in 1965.  This event, gaining more and more popularity every year, evolved into a four-round tournament in 2012 and changed its name to the Humana Challenge.  Known today as the CareerBuilder Challenge, this prestigious golf tournament includes amateur golfers teaming up with PGA Tour professionals to demonstrate a fantastic show of athleticism.

Reason #2: Join in a Classic Pro-Am Tournament

Since its beginning, this famous tournament has featured guests such as Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Arnold Palmer, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Stewart, Frank Sinatra, Clint Eastwood, Bill Murray, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Justin Timberlake, and countless others.  Today, this event is sponsored by CareerBuilder, a global leader of human resource solutions.  By signing up for the CareerBuilder Challenge, you’ll have the chance to compete with PGA and famous golfers and win great prizes in daily events in the scenic Californian desert. Phil Mickelson is the 2017 Tournament Ambassador. Jason Dunfar is the 2016-defending champion.

Reason #3: Experience Great Golf Courses

This year’s CareerBuilder Challenge will take place January 18-22, 2017. It takes place in La Quinta, California just southwest of Palm Springs. The La Quinta Country Club was opened in 1959 during a ribbon cutting ceremony with President Eisenhower and has been the home of the tournament since 1964. PGA tour pros consistently rank the greens “among the best on the Tour”. Additional golf courses utilized during the CareerBuilder Challenge include the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and the Stadium Course located at PGA West, a golf and lifestyle development surrounded by the majestic panorama of the Santa Rosa Mountains.  Tickets are $75 for the full tournament or $30 per day.

Reason #4: Something for everyone with the CareerBuilder Challenge Fan Experience

Great golf may be the highlight of this thrilling PGA tournament in the warm Coachella Valley desert, but even if you’re not a golf fan, there’s something for you at the CareerBuilder Challenge’s brand-new fan experience. Features being highlighted during this year’s event include food trucks, fine restaurants, outdoor concerts and a special tribute to golf legend Arnold Palmer. You can count on a great week of sun, fun, cocktails, music, friends and golf! There are also special Theme Days saluting specific groups of fans during the tournament. Patriot Day is Saturday, January 21 where you’re asked to wear red, white and blue to honor US Military personnel. Kids Day is Sunday, January 22 with an interactive golf clinic at the PGA West driving range to teach golf fundamentals to kids in an exciting and fun way.
